PRIMARY ORAL HEALTHCARE

Primary Oral Healthcare is delivered to the population of Labuan. The main target groups are the toddlers, preschool children, primary and secondary schoolchildren, antenatal mothers, children with special needs, adults and the elderly. All the activities under this programme have been designed and implemented to ensure optimal oral health outcome.

 

i.    Toddler Service

Early Childhood Oral Healthcare is given to children once they are born. The main objective of the early childhood oral healthcare programme is to promote and maintain good oral health of toddlers as to ensure their optimum growth and development.

Children examined in the Maternal and Child Health Clinic (KKIA) and Rural Health Clinic (KD)  will be referred to Labuan Dental Clinic for further dental examination.

Dental nurses will provide guidance on oral healthcare knowledge to parents/ caretakers of their children.

 

ii.    Pre-school Service

Under this activity, preschool children are exposed to promotional and preventive initiatives. These include dental health talks, tooth brushing sessions, puppet shows, role-play and other fun activities. Dental examination and treatment are carried out after these activities.

 

iii.  School Dental Service

The School Dental Services in primary and secondary school as well as preschool are delivered through the School Dental Service which utilizes the Incremental Dental Care Approach, which is a systematic and comprehensive approach. The final objective is so that the children achieve an orally-fit status. School children will be examined and treated in their own school. This service include children with special needs enrolled in that school.

 

iv.   Antenatal Service

The main aim of this activity  is to impart oral health knowledge to pregnant mothers. Mothers are also given free dental examination and treatment. Apart from that, oral health promotion sessions  are also carried out to this group. 

 

v.   Outpatient Service.

Labuan currently has one Dental Clinic. This clinic is situated on the first floor of the Labuan Health Clinic. Outpatient services are available on every working day to provide dental examination, scaling, fillings and extraction of teeth. For other dental treatments such as denture, root canal treatment, minor oral surgery on impacted third molar and other oral abnormalities, appointment will be required.

 

vi.   Service For Children With Special Needs

This service is delivered in Community Centers and Health Community Center that is found in Labuan. Oral examinations and treatments will be given to these children every year. Oral  Health Talks and guidance on toothbrushing  are also given to caretakers of children with special needs.

COMMUNITY ORAL HEALTHCARE

 

INTRODUCTION

The main focus of Community Oral Healthcare is on the prevention of caries and oral cancer. These include Fluoridation Of Public Water Supplies, Clinical treatment such as Fissure Sealants on molars, fluoride varnishes, and other prevention programmes includes talks, tooth brushing demonstration, role play and  Early Detection Of Pre-Cancerous Lesions  and Oral Cancer.

 

FLUORIDATION

Fluoridation of public water supplies is an effective preventive measure which greatly benefits the community if the fluoride levels are maintained at the optimum level. Fluoridation has proved to reduce tooth decay. Co-operation needs to be improved with the Water Supply Department as well as the Public Treatment Plants.

 

FISSURE SEALANT

Fissure Sealant ia a clinical preventive activity aimed at preventing dental caries. Fissure sealants are applied to pits and fissure of permanent molars in children at risk for occlusal caries. 

                               

ORAL CANCER

The Primary Prevention and Early Detection Of Oral Pre-Cancerous Lesions and Cancer Activity targets at high risk group. The aim of this activity is to increase  awareness on risk factors associated with oral cancer. This activity also serves to educate individuals on detecting early signs and symptoms of oral cancer and to carry out screening for early detection of oral cancer. When detected, chances of cancer recovery are brighter.

Rawatan Pergigian

 

Dibawah rawatan pergigian aktiviti yang diberikan adalah seperti dibawah

 

• Perkhidmatan primer

 

Perkhidmatan primer dijalankan di Klinik Pergigian Labuan oleh Pegawai Pergigian dan juga Jururawat Pergigian

 

• Perkhidmatan incremental Sekolah Rendah dan Menengah

 

Perkhidmatan incremental bagi murid sekolah rendah dan menengah dijalankan melalui Klinik Kesihatan Pergigian yang terdapat di sekolah, dan juga oleh Pasukan Pergigian Bergerak. Terdapat tujuh belas buah sekolah rendah dan sembilan buah sekolah menengah di WP Labuan

 

• Perkhidmatan rawatan kepada murid-murid tadika

 

Aktiviti pencegahan merupakan aktiviti utama yang dijalankan bagi kanak-kanak pra-sekolah dan tadika, bagaimanapun, perkhidmatan rawatan juga telah dilakukan dan keutamaan adalah kepada tadika kerajaan dan diikuti tadika swasta

 

Pencegahan Pergigian

 

Aktiviti yang dijalankan dibawah pencegahan pergigian adalah seperti dinyatakan berikut:

• Pemflouridaan bekalan air
• Latihan memberus gigi murid sekolah rendah dan tadika

The various facilities available

  1. DENTAL CLINIC

One dental clinic ia available in Labuan which is  situated on the first floor of Labuan Health Clinic.

  1. SCHOOL DENTAL CLINIC

There are three operating primary schools dental clinic which is Sekolah Kebangsaan Pekan 1, Sekolah Kebangsaan Pekan 2 and SJK(C) Chi Wen. 

  1. MOBILE DENTAL TEAM

The three Mobile Dental Teams are Primary School Mobile Dental Team, Secondary School Mobile Dental Team and Preschool Mobile Dental Team.
